The Lithuanian Amateur Theatre Association (LMTS) was founded in 1991 and has since become a key organisation uniting and supporting amateur theatre across Lithuania. Today it brings together 61 leading amateur theatres and individual members — prominent figures in the field.
AITA/IATA since 1993,
co-founder of NEATA.
In 1993, LMTS became a member of the International Amateur Theatre Association (AITA/IATA, founded 1952 in Brussels, connecting more than 90 countries) and was granted National Centre status.
In 1998, together with partners from Northern Europe and the Baltic region, LMTS co-founded the Northern European Amateur Theatre Alliance (NEATA).

In 1997, LMTS launched its newspaper Amateur Theatre, dedicated to the dissemination of theatre culture and ideas. Over the years, a total of 83 issues were published.
Festivals, seminars and creative camps.
Guided by its statutes and mission, LMTS actively organises national and international theatre festivals, seminars, conferences, and creative workshops and camps. Lithuanian amateur theatres are active participants in NEATA and AITA/IATA events and consistently represent Lithuania at international and global festivals.

Long Live Theatre — 31 years and counting.
LMTS works closely with the Lithuanian National Culture Centre to organise the annual theatre celebration Long Live Theatre, hosted each year in a different Lithuanian city. In 2026, the event was held for the 31st time.
